Tsuga Gallery to celebrate their third anniversary

The Tsuga Gallery, 70 Main St., in Cathlamet will celebrate its third anniversary on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Music will be provided by Fred Carter on the guitar. This will be a kick off event for the Bald Eagle Days Festival.

On Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. they will host Kidzartworks, free, for ages four and up. Participants will explore art, mosaics, creative driftwood, mixed media and more.

The gallery came into being as a gift from local artist and art lover, Janet Cimino, who did much to promote art in the area and to bring local artists together. It was her desire to have a gallery where artists could showcase their work and come together for growing and learning. She was able to attend the opening celebration three years ago when the gallery was packed with an overflow crowd, but succumbed to cancer a short time later.

The gallery has grown since then and is operated by member artists of the Tsuga Art Association on a volunteer basis. Membership is open to Wahkiakum County residents and residents of the Naselle area, with new members being juried in quarterly.

An array of fine arts and crafts fill the gallery. Members include painters, photographers, woodworkers, jewelers, potters, a glass blower, ceramic and tile designer, and others. The gallery includes a classroom and has been utilized for classes in watercolor, acrylics, drawing and art appreciation. Open house receptions are held often with music and refreshments to encourage the community to meet the artists and get to know them. Exhibits are changed often so everything remains fresh. A framing shop is in the works and will be added in the near future.

The gallery’s hours are Thursday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. More information is available at http://www.tsugagallery.com and also http://www.facebook.com/tsugagallery.
