PIGYS founders say goodbye

To The Eagle:

About 13 years ago, the wife and I started the Puget Island Garage & Yard Sales, now known as PIGYS. It was a way for us (Islanders), for a paltry $10, to afford ads in eight newspapers, posters in seven counties, numerous sites on the internet and word of mouth galore. This event was visited by mainlanders from at least two states every year, and sometimes more.

I have been lucky and proud to live in a community like this. People helping people. Brag about it wherever I go. Never had it this good. One difference from any other place we lived - a neighborly chat over the fence was not just five or 10 minutes, many times it extended to hours. And there was no fence. We have never had better neighbors!

So this is our swan song. We are passing the PIGYS on to others who will take good care of it. It has been a delight working with and meeting all of you who have been a part of this typical fun and goofy American event. We’ll be here next year to sign up as a vendor.
