Cross Country

The Wahkiakum High Mule and Thomas Middle School Warrior cross country teams traveled to Lacey on Tuesday to compete in the Bill Kehoe Invitational and to Ridgefield last Wednesday, October 8 to compete in the Trico 1A hosted by LaCenter.

At St. Martin University in Lacey, seventh grader Ted Stacey competed against 65 other middle school boys in a 1.25 mile race. He placed 13th with a time of 7:47, only 33 seconds behind the leader.

There were 172 high school boys competing in the 5,000 meter. The winner finished with a time of 16:01. Elliott Haney came in 103rd place with a time of 21:07. He was followed closely by Luke Stacey, who took 105th place with a time of 21:08. Nevan Bingham came in 119th place with a time of 21:45.

In the high school girls 5,000 meter race, there were 91 runners. The winner came in with a time of 18:49. Mya Kirzy placed 39th with a time of 23:55, Shona Heywood came in at 51 with a time of 25:30, followed closely by Samantha Boyce who finished in 25:38 and took 52nd place. Jessica Thomas came in 58th with a time of 26:06, Aly Kirzy placed 67th with a time of 27:13 and Kyrah Scuito finished in 87th place with a time of 31:45.

At the Trico 1A event in Ridgefield, Ted Stacey placed 11th in the boy’s 1.7 mile middle school race with a time of 13:07.4. The winner in the field of 20 ran the race in 11:29.0.

There were 35 competing in the boy’s 5,000 meter high school run, with the winner coming in with a time of 18:29.4. Bingham led the Mule team, coming in 17th place with a time of 21:46.9. Luke Stacey tied with another runner for 18th place and finished in 21:52.7. Haney ran the race in 23:12.0, placing 23rd.

There were 25 runners in the high school girl’s 5,000 meter race. The winner finished in 20:26.3.

Mya Kirzy led the Mule runners, taking 11th place with a time of 25:08.0. Heywood, Boyce and Thomas took 17th, 18th and 19th consecutively. Their times were 27:25.9, 27:38.2 and 27:44.3. Aly Kirzy came in 21st place with a time of 28:14.3 and Scuito finished 25th with a time of 33:54.0

The Mules’ next meet is Thursday, October 23, when the Mules travel to Mossyrock to compete in the 2B District IV Central League Championship.
