October 16, 2014

The Mule Volleyball team won their last two league games, making them 2-2 in league and 7-2 overall. Last Thursday, following two disappointing losses, the Mules beat Toledo at home in three sets, 25-15, 25-14 and 25-13.

“We were much more efficient on both sides of the ball than we’ve shown in league play thus far,” Coach Kayli Hurley said. “Toledo has some good weapons and we were able to make adjustments to minimize the impact.”

Baylee Olsen had a hitting efficiency of .900, with 10 attempts and nine kills. She also served six aces. Tori Wegdahl had eight kills. Setter Morgan Elliott had 19 assists and five aces.

The team had a hitting efficiency of .452 and Coach Hurley praised all her hitters: Olsen, Wegdahl, Peyton Souvenir, Makenzie Anderson, Kennedi LaBerge and Kaylee Bryant.

On Tuesday, the Mules traveled to Adna and beat the Pirates in five sets, 23-25, 25-13, 19-25, 25-12 and 15-11.

“This was a well fought match by both teams,” Coach Hurley said. “There was great hustle and fight on both sides of the court.”

Wegdahl led the team with 18 kills and 12 digs. Olsen had 13 kills and three “stuff” blocks. Anderson and LaBerge had five kills apiece and LaBerge added 17 service points.

“Our bench was vital in helping to keep us accountable and fired up,” Coach Hurley said. “We were able to make enough adjustments to keep the momentum on our side when it counted.”
