The Onalaska Loggers overpowered the Wahkiakum Mules for a 56-20 Central League football win last Friday.

Once again, the Mules fielded a small squad--16 suited up for the game--with underclassmen having to do battle.

"Our starting center got sick Friday and went home at noon," said Mule Coach Eric Hansen. "Two two-way starters are ineligible because of grades, and we had to suspend a kid last week because of a training code violation."

The Loggers scored twice in the first quarter on runs of 22 and four yards. They boosted that lead to 30-0 with two more touchdowns in the beginning of the second quarter.

The Mules struck back with 4:33 left in the second quarter. Brady LaBerge scored on a 30-yard run, and Gunnar Blix kicked the conversion to make the score 30-7.

The Loggers, however, put up two more before halftime on runs of 75 and six yards for a 42-7 halftime lead.

In the third quarter, Blix scored on an eight-yard run and kicked a conversion to cut the deficit to 42-14. Onalaska responded with a touchdown at the end of the third and their last at the beginning of the fourth for a 56-14 lead. Brandon Budd closed out the scoring with a one-yard touchdown run for the Mules with 7:06 left. Blix's conversion kick made the score 56-21.

The Mules gained 215 yards on the ground and 63 yards in the air on two pass completions. Onalaska piled up 546 rushing yards and had another 15 yards on one pass completion.

Blix led the Mule ball carriers with 144 yards on 22 caries. LaBerge gained 68. Blix and Zach Brown each completed a pass for the Mules; LaBerge caught one for 30 yards, and Budd caught one for 33 yards.

Blix also led the Mule defense with 22 tackles. Brown and Hank Ferguson each had nine; Kurtis Bergseng had six, and Budd and Joey Moore

each five.

The Mules host the winless Winlock Cardials this week in the annual homecoming football game. Senior athletes in fall sports will be introduced before the game.
