It's Spirit Week at Wahkiakum High School and it shows. Students have been having a good time dressing up to represent each day's theme.

At assemblies at the end of each day, the classes compete in good natured competition. The students are trying to earn points by dressing up and winning competitions, because the class with the most points and therefore the most spirit, gets a pizza party.

On 'Merica Monday, the students celebrated things that were uniquely American. According to Peyton Souvenir, a sophomore and the ASB Assistant Treasurer, some students dressed in the red, white, and blue. Others dressed in hunting garb. A few hillbillies were sighted at the school too.

On Tuesday, the student body had Color Wars. The students dressed in the color selected for their class. Students representing each class competed in a game of twister and the juniors got the win.

"My favorite thing is how flexible this all is," Souvenir said. "For color wars, I came in purple. But I also came in my pajamas. I was very comfortable."

In one of this generation's favorite, oft-quoted movies, Mean Girls, a character announces to the new girl at school that "On Wednesdays, we wear pink." So on Wednesday, the students decided to do just that.

Today is Throwback Thursday, and students have dressed up in the fashions of yesteryear, whether yesteryear is 10 years ago, 20 years ago or 70 years ago.

School colors will be on display on Friday when students celebrate the red and black.

"Everyone goes all out that day," Souvenir said.

On Friday, at 3:30, the students will gather for a parade that will wind its way around the school and downtown, rallying for Homecoming and the Mule football team's game against Winlock later that evening.

Homecoming Court this year is represented by freshman princess Grayci Thomas and escort Chuck Barton, Jr., sophomore princess Savannah Burdick and escort Jack Leavitt, junior princess Kennedi LaBerge and escort Colton Mace, and senior princesses Baylee Olsen, Bruna Rocha and Shelbie Abbot, whose escorts are Alex Johnson, Ollie Crawford and Nevan Bingham.

The queen will be announced at halftime.
