October 23, 2014



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

October 13 — 2:11 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an elderly Puget Island resident who had fallen. 2:34 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that someone had threatened to hit kids with a bat.

October 14 — 10:05 a.m. A chemical leak was reported at Wauna Mill; a chlorine gas leak was contained in the mill, and no one was injured or affected. 10:29 a.m. A Rosburg resident reported that a dog and some goats had been abandoned on her property. 10:55 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that a “mean” pit bull was loose and that neighbors were threatening to shoot the dog. The dog’s owner called 911 to let them know that she was enroute. A caller then reported that shots were fired. The dog’s owner ran over a cat and then left the area. One person was taken into custody. 1:37 p.m. An alarm was activated at an Elochoman Valley address. 1:55 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that a former spouse was making threats. 3:24 p.m. Shots were fired in the Elochoman Valley; a deputy investigated. 4:11 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported receiving a fraudulent phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS and threatening to jail the resident’s son if funds were not forwarded. 4:16 p.m. A woman was seen behaving oddly and walking in traffic on SR 4 in the Rosedale area. 4:31 p.m. A subject in a westbound vehicle threw something and broke a mirror on a bus on SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area. 5:44 p.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle on Puget Island.

October 15 — 7:33 a.m. Cows were loose on Puget Island; the owner was notified. 2:29 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosedale address. 4:34 p.m. A foul odor was reported at a park in Cathlamet. 7:11 p.m. A dead deer was found alongside the road in the Elochoman Valley.

October 16 — 3:44 a.m. An alarm was activated at a Cathlamet business. 7:57 a.m. A welfare check was requested for an Elochoman Valley resident. 9:38 a.m. Cows were loose in the Skamokawa area; the owner was notified. 11:25 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance and District 4 Fire Department responded to aid a Rosedale resident who had fallen. 12:14 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to a fire alarm in Rosedale. It was a false alarm. 3:24 p.m. A caller complained that a marijuana grower had grows in two locations but only had a license for one location. 7:32 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a juvenile with a twisted ankle at the high school in Cathlamet.

October 17 — 12:01 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported hearing screams. 2:47 p.m. A Skamokawa resident complained that his neighbor’s cows were in his yard and that it was a continual problem. 8:19 p.m. A motorist who needed jumper cables was attempting to wave someone down on SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area. 10 p.m. A Rosedale resident heard a loud crash and saw a vehicle in a ditch; authorities were requested to keep an eye out for the vehicle.

October 18 — 8:14 a.m. An unoccupied car was found in a ditch on SR 4 near County Line Park. 8:37 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident who was trying to move out complained about being harassed by her landlord. 10:53 a.m. A cow was seen on a Puget Island roadway; the owner was notified. 11:46 a.m. A motorist reported an aggressive driver in a log truck on SR 4 near Flandersville. 3:37 p.m. An erratic driver was reported heading east on SR 4 near Flandersville. 4:53 p.m. The back door of a vacant home on Puget Island was found wide open. 8:33 p.m. A caller reported a cow on the shoulder of a Deep River road.

October 19 — 4 a.m. A tree came down on SR 4 near Nassa Point; a trooper from state patrol would attempt to handle it. 3:09 p.m. A caller was concerned about two young children and a man riding their bikes on the shoulder of SR 4 near the Cathlamet school road. 3:39 p.m. A subject was taken into custody after a vehicle stop on SR 4 just west of County Line Park. 6:45 p.m. A Rosburg resident reported that a vehicle had pulled into his driveway and when his dogs investigated, the driver yelled and cursed at them. The resident went out to check on the situation when the driver got out of the vehicle and pointed a rifle at him and threatened to shoot him. A passenger told the driver to get back in the car. The driver threatened the resident again and then got back in the vehicle and they left.
