October 30, 2014



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

October 20 — 9:40 a.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosedale business when a visitor tried to open the door; a responsible party could not be located. 12:22 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that a sign had been stolen; the county road department had taken the sign because it was too close to the road. 3:10 p.m. A Puget Island resident wished to have a person evicted from his property; a deputy advised him that it was a civil matter. 7:06 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that a no contact order had been violated.

October 21 — 10:36 a.m. The owner of an Elochoman Valley residence requested a check on his empty home. 1:58 p.m. A caller reported a fire in the Rosburg area; investigation revealed that a timber company was performing a slash burn. 3:08 p.m. A welfare check was requested on a camper in the Grays River area. 3:13 p.m. A caller reported finding a trailer door open at an Elochoman Valley residence and that no one was around. 4:51 p.m. A caller reported a cow on a Puget Island roadway; the owner was notified.

October 22 — 8:08 a.m. A deputy and the state patrol responded when a log truck went into a ditch on SR 4 in the Elochoman Valley area. 4:01 p.m. Deputies were requested for a civil standby in Cathlamet.

October 23 — 8:20 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported the theft of an outboard motor. 9:46 a.m. Medical waste and kitchen scraps were dumped on a Skamokawa resident’s property. 12:28 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Puget Island resident. 2:24 p.m. Tree branches had fallen onto a Grays River roadway. 3:11 p.m. A caller reported that a person in Cathlamet was selling drugs. 4:26 p.m. Cows were seen near the ferry landing on Puget Island; the owner was notified. 5:44 p.m. A caller reported a woman walking westbound on SR 4 near County Line Park. 6:23 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle with its engine stripped and parts nearby on a Rosedale road.

October 24 — 7:37 a.m. A caller reported a cow on a Puget Island roadway; the owners were notified. 9:03 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an elderly Rosedale resident who was having a seizure. 2:27 p.m. A caller reported that his dogs had been attacked by another dog on Puget Island. 3:35 p.m. A Rosedale resident requested a deputy, stating that she was “having some problems with her grandmother.” 4:10 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported a vehicle hit and run. 5:07 p.m. A caller from Oregon reported being threatened over the phone by a Puget Island resident. 5:18 p.m. A Grays River resident reported hearing shots fired. 11:16 p.m. Deputies, the Cathlamet ambulance and a professional from mental health responded to a residence when a caller reported that someone was attempting to commit suicide.

October 25 — 1:49 a.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that a neighbor was causing a disturbance. 1:09 p.m. A caller reported that a tree was about to fall on power lines in Cathlamet; the PUD was notified. 3:02 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle in the Rosburg area. 3:42 p.m. A welfare check was requested on a Rosedale resident who was not answering his phone; a deputy investigated and found that the man was not at home. 5:21 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that the power was out; the PUD was notified and they were able to restore power to the area by 6:19 p.m. 6:24 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that the power was out; the PUD was notified and restored power by 7:37 p.m. 6:59 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that the power was out; the PUD was notified and restored power to the entire valley by 8:45 p.m. 7:01 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a family in the Elochoman Valley; they were fine. 7:02 p.m. A caller reported a tree limb in the eastbound lane of SR 4 near Flandersville. 7:28 p.m. An alarm went off at a residence near County Line Park; the owner was contacted and he said it had been activated accidentally. 7:29 p.m. A caller reported a big branch in a power line near County Line Park; the Cathlamet Fire Department and the PUD said they would send someone. 7:47 p.m. A caller reported that a felon had posted a picture of himself with a rifle on Facebook.

October 26 — 3:23 p.m. A Puget Island resident had questions regarding a boat that had been left in front of his home; he was advised that it was a civil matter. 6:24 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a young Skamokawa resident who had fallen and hit his head. 11:59 p.m. A welfare check was requested on an Elochoman Valley family.

October 27 — 12:04 a.m. A welfare check was requested on an Elochoman Valley family.
