What's happening at the Fair?

October 30, 2014

The Halloween Carnival and Haunted House open tonight at 5 p.m. Jason Rainey and his volunteers have made my cow barn into a Haunted House. It will never be the same. I promise if you come you will leave scared. There are lots of ghosts and scary things to see, so don't forget to stop by. The cost for the Haunted House is only $3.00 unless you bring 3 non-perishable food items, then it will only cost you a dollar and all the food will be donated to the local food banks.

In the Youth Building on Thursday (tonight) the Halloween Carnival will be going on. There will be lots of fun games for the kids (only $1.00 per game, with a prize every time). Don't forget to carve your pumpkin and enter it in the "Carved Pumpkin Contest." Put on the kids Costume for the Costume contest, it will be judged at around 6:30 p.m. While the kids are at the carnival they can enter the coloring contest for a prize. I would like to take the time to thank all the volunteers who are helping make this event a success.

Next on the busy weekend will be the First Flea Market at the fair. Jean Beerbower is the contact for this event. If you are interested and can't get a hold of Jean there are set up times on Friday October 31 from 3 to 5 p.m., or Saturday at 8 a.m. The cost for a table is $10. Or you can leave a message at the office.

Be planning ahead for Turkey Bingo which is on November 21 this year. It will be held in the J. A. Wendt Elementary School cafeteria. It is set to start at 6 p.m., so come enjoy a night of bingo. Watch for more information on this.

Last weekend the Wahkiakum County Fair had six people attend the Washington State Fair Convention in Pasco. We got some bad news as the state wants to cut the fair funding. If this happens it will have a great impact on our little fair. I need your help in letting our legislators know that the fair is important, so write letters and make phone calls. Please do whatever you can to help. 4-H members: Let them know how important it is to you to go to fair. Thanks for all the fairs in Washington. On the other side of things Jean Beerbower’s scrap book got second place. Good job, Jean; it was awesome and I know next year’s will be better. We learned a lot, got some new ideas for fair and had a blast.

Hope to see everyone tonight at the Halloween Carnival and Haunted House!
