Senior night win

The Wahkiakum Mule volleyball team celebrated their seniors and ended regular season play October 29 with a win against Winlock at home before preparing for district playoffs on Saturday in Willapa Valley.

It's the final season for seniors Kaylee Bryant, Morgan Elliott, Whitney Kuller, Baylee Olsen and Tori Wegdahl.

The Mules beat the Winlock Cardinals in three sets, 25-7, 25-8 and 25-8.

"The team was fired up and efficient," Coach Kayli Hurley said.

Kuller had two kills, Wegdahl had seven kills, seven aces and 2.4 out of a possible 3.0 pass rating. Bryant had five kills, three aces, three digs and one stuff block. Elliott had 19 assists and Olsen finished with four kills, one stuff block and four aces.

The Mules ended their season with a 12-2 overall record, 7-2 in league. Their record put them in fourth place in the Central 2B league.

District tournament opener

On Saturday, the Mules traveled to Willapa Bay to face the Northwest league's number two team, the Darrington Loggers. The Mules lost in four sets, 26-24, 22-25, 23-25 and 15-25.

The teams were well matched, but Darrington was more consistent on Saturday and took advantage of many unforced errors from the Mule side.

"Our unforced errors have plagued us all year," Coach Hurley said. "Darrington had some of the best serves we've seen all season and that threw us too. We did some great things but we just couldn't put it together enough to make it stick."

Against Darrington, Olsen had 19 kills and Bryant had eight kills. The two were over .500 in hitting efficiency. Wegdahi added13 kills and 10 digs. Elliott had 23 assists. Olsen and Savannah Burdick were 100 percent from the service line.
