WHS invites you to "Honor Our Veterans"

Public ceremony scheduled for November 12

Wahkiakum High School will hold its annual Veterans Day Assembly at 11:11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12. The ceremony is open to the public.

The program will include music, presentations by students and a talk from guest speaker LTC [R] Steven D. Vermillion of Puyallup. In 1969, Steve, a 20-year Warrant Officer was assigned to the 45th Medical Company [AA] in Vietnam. Within a short period of time, he was flying as an aircraft commander in the most difficult and dangerous hoist missions supporting the ‘brown water Navy’ in the Mekong River delta. After Vietnam, Steve returned to the states to serve as an instructor pilot. Steve’s awards include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal 30 OLC with V device, Meritorious Service Medal 2 OLC, Army Commendation Medal 5 OLC, the Humanitarian Service Medal and Master Army Aviator’s badge. After leaving military service, he has been an Adjunct Instructor teaching graduate courses for Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and a Professor of Military Science at the University of Washington. From his teaching experience, he opened his first business working as an independent consultant and organizational trainer. He is active in many boards, groups and councils in the Puyallup area.

The public is invited to take part in this ceremony honoring those whose service and sacrifice make our county the place it is.
