Commissioners of Port District 1 met on November 13 at the Elochoman Slough Marina office to go over Port 1 business.

Port Manager Jackie Lea reported that they were trying to find a contractor to complete the RV dump station project and despite sending out several letters, only one picked up a bid package.

The port had also received two bids for their dredging project, one for $78,300 and the other for $100,000. Both bids came up short in addressing the needs of the project.

“We asked specifically for the marina and the channel,” Lea said. “The RFP directly states that in the first paragraph. One of the firms claims it doesn’t include the marina, and one is going to charge us for a survey that we already have.”

“We can’t accept the bids,” Lea added. “I think the best thing to do is put it back out to bid and break it out line by line and see what we get.”

The commissioners voted to refuse the bids and try again.

The half-lit marina office prompted one commissioner to make a motion to fix the lights, which had been troublesome for some time. The motion was seconded and approved.

The commissioners discussed potential projects for the port, including possible beautification of the RV site, lighting provided by the Town of Cathlamet, the old sewer lagoons, and whether the commissioners wanted to accept the stern picker that Mike Backman had offered to donate to the port. No decisions were made.
