Westend news

Are you interested in a group fitness program? The Grays River Valley Center has been blessed with another gigantic donation of equipment and commitment by Fred and Sadie Lehr of Grays River, as well as a very substantial cash donation. Fred has purchased a beautiful weight lifting system (gym quality) and donated it to the center, along with extra olympic weights. He is interested in putting together a group of folks to come together and work out, discuss fitness, and have a good, safe experience, on a regular basis. He is willing to head up the program and is looking for a few others to help out when he is not available.

Fred and Sadie also donated the wonderful elliptical machine a few years ago. Through the generosity of neighbors like them and others we have an excellent selection of fitness equipment for everyone to use, including a treadmill, a bowflex, and a rowing machine. Come check it out.

The Johnson Park Advisory Board would like to thank Fred and Sadie for their generosity and commitment to our community. You are certainly appreciated.

As you may know, if you have made a trip to the GRVC gym to play some basketball, we are still in the process of redoing the basketball backboards. Many thanks to Monte Givens and John Zimmerman for volunteering for the job, and even though you have full time work, have taken your free time to help us out. The whole community will benefit from your volunteering, and we appreciate all your hard work.

No word yet on when the job will be complete, so please bear with us.

The free Friday night movie this week is rated PG and is a new take on the old classic of Sleeping Beauty. A recent release for family viewing will be shown on our big screen with surround sound. The show starts at 7 p.m.

Concessions are also available with popcorn, soda pop and candy. Join us for an evening of fun.

The West End Food Pantry is open to the community on Thursdays from 1-5 p.m. for your convenience. Donations are accepted at the Grays River Valley Center with a drop box in the north end of the building.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets at the Rosburg Hall each week for a delicious home cooked meal prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew. Lunch is served at noon.

On Thursdays a senior meal is also served at the above location and is sponsored by CAP.
