December 18, 2014



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

December 8 — 11:31 a.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosburg home; the owner was contacted, and the residence was secure. 3:18 p.m. A juvenile allegedly pulled a gun on an individual and threatened to kill him in a Cathlamet Park, according to a caller; an officer investigated. 4:01 The juvenile mentioned in an earlier report was seen “fiddling” with something under the little bridge on the island. 4:15 p.m. A caller reported seeing a driver pull up on the wrong side of the road and open the mailbox belonging to the caller. 10:48 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to aid an elderly Grays River resident who had fallen.

December 9 — 4:30 a.m. A power outage was reported in Grays River; the PUD was notified. 10:24 a.m. A caller had not heard from a Cathlamet couple in two months and requested a welfare check; investigation revealed that the couple had sold their home and moved out of the area. 4:26 p.m. A deputy performed a welfare check on a Puget Island resident at the request of another agency; no one was home. 4:35 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to aid a Grays River resident who was ill due to complications with diabetes. 5:53 p.m. A caller reported finding a dog at a Rosedale business; the caller was given the number for a local rescue. 6:45 p.m. A caller reported a dog running loose in Cathlamet. 7:07 p.m. A vehicle was seen swerving in traffic on Puget Island. 7:29 p.m. A welfare check was requested on a possibly suicidal individual in the Rosedale area.

December 10 — 8:50 a.m. A wallet was found at a Rosedale business; it was returned to its owner. 10:25 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported an individual with pneumonia from the clinic in Cathlamet to the hospital. 11:28 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported an unknown pit bull on his property. 1:41 p.m. An ATM alarm was activated in Cathlamet. 2:15 p.m. An officer’s presence was requested by an agency that needed to serve papers to an Elochoman Valley resident. 4:42 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported an individual with low blood pressure and internal bleeding from the clinic in Cathlamet to the hospital. 4:51 p.m. A waste water alarm was activated in Cathlamet; a public works employee responded. 6:04 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet resident who was having a seizure. 11:15 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to aid a Deep River resident who was suffering from kidney stone pain.

December 11 — 12:20 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance transported an individual who had lost consciousness at the clinic in Cathlamet to the hospital. 3:54 p.m. A crew from the Washington Department of Transportation was notified and en route after several reports of debris on SR 4. 5:04 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that two people were trespassing on his property. 5:35 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to the report in Grays River of a branch on a power line that was arcing and sparking and had caused a power outage. 6:11 p.m. A caller complained about cars parked in the roadway outside a Cathlamet business. 7:03 p.m. The PUD was notified of a power outage in Cathlamet and were able to restore power by 7:34 p.m. 7:06 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that a transformer had blown and that a power line might be down; the PUD was notified. 8:12 p.m. Dispatch was informed that Highway 30 in Oregon was closed for the night. 8:42 p.m. A caller reported that a tree branch was blocking traffic in the westbound lane of SR 4. 11:56 p.m. A caller reported that power was out in the Elochoman Valley; the PUD was notified and were able to restore power at 2:54 a.m.

December 12 — 4:52 a.m. A caller reported finding horses on a Puget Island road; the caller attempted to contact the owner and when that failed, tried to get the horses back on their property. The caller got the horses off the road, but was unable to close the gate. 9:32 a.m. A caller reported that she had caught a small unknown dog that had been running in traffic in the Rosedale area. 10:24 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a neighbor’s two dogs had come on to their property and killed some of their poultry. 10:32 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet resident who was having difficulty breathing. 10:36 a.m. An individual was taken into custody after a traffic stop in the Elochoman Valley area. 12:34 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a former spouse who had threatened to kill himself; the individual was contacted and he informed law enforcement that there was a misunderstanding and he was okay. 1:42 p.m. Two loose dogs were seen chasing livestock on Puget Island; one dog was put down by the property owner. 3:59 p.m. A major water leak was reported on a Cathlamet corner; it turned out that a land owner was having work done on a drain system. 6:07 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver heading eastbound on SR 4 on Abe Creek Hill. 7:12 p.m. A motorist reported hitting a beach ball sized rock and blowing a tire in the eastbound lane on SR 4 near Nassa Point; state patrol responded and assisted with the tire change. 8:12 p.m. A Puget Island resident notified dispatch that he was on his neighbors’ property and that they weren’t happy about it but he was looking for his missing dog.

December 13 — 10:50 a.m. A Skamokawa resident reported several violations of a protection order and an individual was taken into custody.

December 14 — 8:09 a.m. A caller reported seeing an oil sheen on the Columbia River. 9:01 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported the theft of a phone and hay; more details uncovered that it was a civil issue and the caller was advised. 11:11 p.m. A caller reported an elk in the roadway on SR 4 near the old garbage dump.

December 15 — 9:16 a.m. Two people were injured in an accident on SR 4 on the eastern side of KM.

Sheriff's Report never fails to make me laugh! If I didn't live here, I would not believe that ink is wasted on such trivial and somewhat less than intelligent happenings in the fine county of Wahkiakum.......makes one ask.....is this $*!% for real???????
