Mule Sam Boyce finds herself surrounded by Pe Ell Trojans.

The Wahkiakum Lady Mules basketball team defeated three Central League opponents in action this week.

On December 10, tough defense and a full court press rattled the Pe Ell Trojans and yielded a win for the Wahkiakum Mule girls basketball team, 65-34.

"They're hustling," Coach Rob Garrett said of Wednesday's game, "but they're not disciplined. I'd like them to be more efficient offensively. They'll get there."

Samantha Boyce led the Mules with 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and five steals. Baylee Olsen had 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and five steals. Tori Wegdahl scored nine points, pulled down eight rebounds, and added one assist and one steal. Peyton Souvenir had nine points as well and added six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Kaylee Bryant had seven points, seven rebounds and one assist. Savannah Burdick added four points, three rebounds and four steals. Sydney Hansen had three points and one rebound. Hansen had two rebounds and one steal. Grace Peacock had three rebounds and one steal. Thomas had five rebounds and one assist.

"I thought the girls played awesome," Garrett said. "They played as a team. They took what we've been teaching and put it into play. Team chemistry came alive. Shots are starting to fall for Sam and Baylee, which was great for them. Everybody played really well."

On Saturday, the Lady Mules traveled to Mossyrock and won 64-16.

Garrett reported that the team was able to hold a Mossyrock player who had scored 27 points in a game against the Mules last year to just two failed shots this time around.

Wahkiakum Mule Tori Wegdahl takes the ball to the basket in the Mules' win over Pe Ell last week.

"I'm really proud of our girls," Garrett said. "We are looking like a team instead of a bunch of talented individuals. Peyton Souvenir had a great night, starting out four for four from the three point line. She handled the pressure really well and did a good job of setting up her teammates. Anytime you have three players score 13 plus points, you know your team is playing good basketball and being unselfish. Kaylee Bryant led the team in rebounds and Tori Wegdahl is doing a ton of the little things that don't show up in the box score to help this team win. It really was an all around team effort."

Olsen had 17 points, one rebound, one assist and one block. Souvenir had 16 points, one rebound, six assists and three steals. Boyce scored 13 points and had seven rebounds, five assists and four steals. Wegdahl had six points, six rebounds, two assists and four steals. Burdick and Kirzy added four points each. Burdick had two rebounds and one steal. Bryant, Hansen and Mace had three points apiece. Bryant had eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and three blocks. Hansen had two rebounds and one steal. Peacock added five rebounds and two steals and Thomas pulled down four rebounds, had two assists and one steal.

The girls headed to Morton/White Pass on Wednesday and play Napavine at home on Friday.
