Merry Christmas to one and all

Down River Dispatches

December 25, 2014

Here we are, patiently waiting for the big night when the jolly old fellow in red makes his rounds. I trust that the readers have all been nice throughout the year and that you will be rewarded. Rudolph is still waiting, with his nose blinking, on my front lawn. It’s probably a good thing too, as Santa might lose his bearing with all the rain and wind we have had.

On a more serious note, we must never forget the true meaning of Christmas and the love and compassion it should bring out in all of us. Reach out and give of yourself in this joyous time. Others may not be quite as fortunate as you, and your caring could be the difference that only you can make for someone.

Though the students are not in school for the rest of this year there are some sports still active. On Monday, the 29th-girls basketball vs Toledo at Ilwaco at 4:30 p.m., boys basketball vs Ilwaco, also played in Ilwaco at 7:30 p.m.; Tuesday, the 30th-Holiday Tourney at Ilwaco. Go Comets!

Anyone who has been in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park to play some basketball, knows that we are in the process of installing new backboards and adjustable hoops, compliments of the actions by Gene Quillhough, the volunteer hours of Monte Givens and John Zimmerman and some hard work. I’m not sure when the project will be complete so please bear with us. It will certainly be worth the wait.

There will be no Free Friday Night movie this week due to the hustle and bustle of the holiday.

Happy Birthday to the following: Tracy Bighill, Keegan McGuire, Lauren Bjornsgard, Tristen Lainey, Carol Alves, Brittany Smith, Bert Haven, Karen Nelson, Garrick Bennett, Kim Eaton, Abbie Taylor Rose, Evart Smith, Steve Smith, Toni Mullins, Bryce Kilponen, Tim Wilson, Monte Howell, Melvin Ross, Sara Swanson, Ellie Chapman, Wendy Macy, Stacy Lane, Richie Bennett, Nathan Reitz and Dolores Nelson. Wishing each of you a wonderful birthday and many more.

Happy Anniversary to Errin and Laurel Smalley, Dan and Carol Wilson, John and Carol Alves, Bruce and Leena Wirkkala, Just and Sue Thomas and Brandon and Lori Rose, Here’s to many more celebrations together.

I would like to wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas, with hope for a wonderful holiday with family and friends, good food and good fun. We are looking forward to a bit of family time with some of our kids. Merry Christmas, one and all.
