3 C's Chowdown set for January 18

Down River Dispatches

January 1, 2015

I hope everyone had a wonderful, fun and family filled Christmas. Now on to a new chapter of life in 2015. It even looks like we will have some sunshine to end 2014.

There are a couple of upcoming events that I would like to report. On Sunday, January 18, the Johnson Park Advisory Board is hosting our annual 3 C’s Chowdown in the Grays River Valley Center from 1-5 p.m. You will have your choice of homemade chili, clam chowder and chicken noodle soup. Your generous donations for this meal will be used to fund ongoing operation costs for the center. Please join us after church for a filling meal and a little social time. Check out the new things available to the community over the past few months.

On Saturday, January 31 the American Legion Deep River Post #111 will hold its annual Crab & Oyster Feed at the Rosberg Community Hall from 6 p.m. to midnight. Advanced tickets are on sale now and there are only 200 tickets available. The price is very reasonable at $28 per person. If you are interested in only attending the dance (9 p.m. to midnight) the price is only $5 per person.

The menu will offer crab, oysters, baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw and garlic bread. There will be a drawing for raffle items after dinner.

For more information or to purchase tickets please contact: Ken Elliot at 465-2274, Judith Emmick at 465-2680 or Dale Rose at 465-2234.

Our new basketball backboards are up and ready for use in the gym at the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park, thanks to Gene Quillhough, Monte Givens and John Zimmerman. They look great. Please pay attention to the restrictions on raising and lowering the baskets. We would love to see a group of young folks and older folks get a few games going on a regular basis.

The West End Food Pantry is open to the community every week on Thursdays from 1-5 p.m. Donations are accepted at the Grays River Valley Center with a drop box in the north end of the building.

There will not be a Free Friday Night movie this week at the Grays River Valley Center. We will resume a weekly schedule next week after the holidays. Thank you for your patience.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets each week at the Rosburg Hall for lunches prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteers. Lunch is served at noon.

On Thursdays, senior meals are also served at the above location and are sponsored by CAP.
