Lady Mules roll over 3 league opponents

It was a tough week to face for the Wahkiakum Mule girls basketball team.

The Lady Mules sent Winlock and Mossyrock packing this week with 18 and 14 and points to their names, respectively, and on Tuesday, they handed Morton/White Pass a 15-point loss.

Last Thursday, with a tough, clean defense and 43 steals, the Mules allowed Winlock only 34 shots, sending the Cardinals to the line just one time. Despite shooting 37 percent, the Mules won easily, 66-18.

"They played really good team basketball," Coach Garrett said. "The second team only gave up two points in the whole fourth quarter. Defense is good right now. That's what you want to do when you're missing shots."

Baylee Olsen scored 28 points, nearing her career high of 31. She had six rebounds, three assists and nine steals. Peyton Souvenir scored 10 points and had three rebounds, six assists and seven steals. Tori Wegdahl added seven points, three rebounds, two assists and five steals. Kaylee Bryant and Savannah Burdick scored six points each. Bryant added five rebounds and two assists and Burdick had two steals. Maddie Mace had four points, two rebounds and four steals. Grace Peacock scored three points and had one rebound, one assist and four steals. Sam Boyce scored two points and had three rebounds, six assists and nine steals. Sydney Hansen had one rebound, Mya Kirzy had two rebounds, Jessica Thomas had two rebounds and one steal and Marissa Longtain had four rebounds and two steals.

On Saturday, Wahkiakum faced a much more physical team from Mossyrock. The Mules continued to play a ferocious defense allowing the Vikings 12 points in the first half and only two in the second. The Mules won easily, 76-14.

"Tonight was a lot of fun," Garrett said. "The girls passed the ball really well and worked hard as a team. I thought everybody played really well and I thought it was a huge game for Kaylee Bryant, confidence wise. She showed what she can do."

Boyce led the team in scoring with 21 points. She also had three rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. Souvenir had a double double. The sophomore pitched in 17 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and two steals. Bryant added 11 points, six rebounds and three blocks. Wegdahl had eight points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. Olsen scored seven points and pulled down seven rebounds. She also had five assists and two steals. Burdick and Hansen added four points apiece. Burdick also had four rebounds and one assist and Hansen had two rebounds. Peacock added two points and two steals. Kirzy and Mace had one point each. Kirzy also had two rebounds, two assists and one steal and Mace had three rebounds, one assist and two steals. Thomas added one rebound, as did Longtain.

On Tuesday, the Lady Mules beat Morton/White Pass, 66-49.

Souvenir led scoring with 19 points. She had eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Olsen had 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, four steals and eight blocks. Boyce added nine points, five rebounds and three assists. Bryant scored six points and had four rebounds and one steal. Wegdahl had five points. Peacock had four points, three rebounds and one assist. Mace had three points, four rebounds and one assist. Burdick and Hansen added two points apiece. Burdick had one rebound and one assist and Hansen had one rebound. Thomas had one point, one rebound, one steal and one block.

The Lady Mules travel all next week with games in Napavine, Onalaska and Toledo. Their final game of the regular season will be at home next Thursday against Toutle Lake.
