Sheriff's Report, March 19, 2015

 

March 19, 2015



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

March 9 — 8:15 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident found cows in his yard and called the Sheriff’s Department to complain. The owner, who was contacted and warned about repeat offenses, collected and secured his cows. 9:34 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that a neighbor’s steers were out. 10:37 a.m. A caller reported two juveniles in a Cathlamet park. The two boys were from Longview and a responsible adult was en route to pick them up. 11:48 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that she had been “ripped off”. 1:26 p.m. A caller reported a driver passing in a no passing zone on SR 4 near County Line Park. 1:27 p.m. A resident reported a rape. 3:25 a.m. A caller reported finding bones in the Brookfield area. To determine whether the bones were human or animal, pictures of the bones were sent to a medical examiner in King County. 6:37 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Rosedale resident. The resident was located and was talking with a deputy while a mental health professional was en route.

March 10 — 11:35 a.m. A landlord lodged a complaint about a renter and was advised that it was a civil issue. 12:30 p.m. A Skamokawa resident complained that his neighbor’s cows were on his property. 3:12 p.m. A caller reported that someone was trespassing on a neighbor’s property in the Elochoman Valley. 4:55 p.m. Drugs were found at a school in Cathlamet. 6:25 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that subjects claiming to be from a cable company had come to his door and acted strangely. 7:02 p.m. A Skamokawa resident complained that a neighbor’s cows were tearing up his yard. The owner was contacted and they agreed he could remove the cows after he helped birth a calf. 7:40 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported finding what she suspected to be a stolen laptop and monitor.

March 11 — 2:27 a.m. A Rosedale resident was concerned after a stranger called his home and asked a family member several questions regarding his employment and hours. Further investigation revealed that the resident had violated an order in Cowlitz County. 10:20 a.m. A caller complained that someone had been pouring cement on her husband’s grave marker at the cemetery in Cathlamet. 11:41 a.m. A caller reported that a vacant home on Puget Island had been ransacked. A deputy conducted a search and found empty alcohol containers and pornography. He was unable to secure the property. There have been multiple complaints from a neighbor about activity on the property at night. 11:52 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet resident who was having a seizure. 4:28 p.m. A caller reported finding a key and noticing suspicious activity at a Cathlamet address. 6:13 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Cathlamet address. 7:11 p.m. A caller reported that an unattended vehicle had been struck by another. The driver made no report but went into a Cathlamet bar where he was taken into custody for driving under the influence and an unattended hit and run.

March 12 — 5:37 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Rosedale resident who was having a seizure, possibly due to diabetic complications. 9:58 a.m. A caller reported a car in a ditch on Puget Island. 1:36 p.m. A caller reported that there would be blasting between 12-5 p.m. on March 13 in the Skamokawa area.

March 13 — 5:32 a.m. A caller reported a shirtless man running around a Cathlamet neighborhood, yelling and waving his arms. 11:37 p.m. A caller reported a minor having a party for the fourth week in a row at a home on Puget Island. A deputy investigated and found alcohol and marijuana. The deputy said that everyone he “contacted” was over 21 and without warrants. The host, whom the deputy acknowledged was under 21, was given a verbal warning because “he is months away from legal age” and did not partake while in the deputy’s presence. The deputy cautioned all not to drive while impaired.

March 14 — 8:58 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an Elochoman Valley resident who was short of breath and having chest pain. 10:12 a.m. A deputy helped a Rosedale resident who was locked out of her vehicle. 10:33 a.m. Deputies responded to the report of someone driving on the wrong side of the road in the Elochoman Valley. The subject was taken into custody and the Cathlamet ambulance was requested to do an evaluation. 2:29 p.m. A caller reported that a tree was blocking the westbound lane of an Elochoman Valley road. 3:07 p.m. A caller reported that a vehicle hit a stop sign in the Deep River area. 3:11 p.m. A caller reported a domestic disturbance in the Rosburg area. One was taken into custody. 6:53 p.m. A landlord reported that a tenant had damaged property in Rosedale. 6:59 p.m. The ferry was reported to be out of service. 7:45 p.m. A caller reported a possibly drunken driver. A deputy investigated and discovered that the driver was lost.

March 15 — 6:01 a.m. An alarm was activated at a Puget Island business and the owner was contacted. 9:01 a.m. Deputies responded to a single vehicle accident on SR 4 in the Grays River area. No injuries were reported but the driver had been drinking. Washington State Patrol was on scene. 9:45 a.m. Deputies searched for a missing juvenile after receiving a tip that she might be in the Rosedale area. After speaking with several people, it was believed she was in the Seattle area. 11:00 a.m. A caller reported that a vehicle had been parked on a logging road in the Elochoman Valley. The owner was contacted and he said the vehicle had broken down but he would try to pick it up that day. 2:17 p.m. A chain saw was found at a Cathlamet park. 2:49 p.m. A call was received from a young Rosedale resident who was crying and hard to understand. It was determined that her older sister had set off the smoke alarm while cooking and everything was okay. 3:52 p.m. The power went out at a residence in Skamokawa and the PUD was notified. 4:20 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet resident who had fallen off a scooter and hurt her back. 4:34 p.m. A father reported that a child had not been returned per a parenting agreement. It was discovered that there was no official parenting plan, but the department sent out an all points bulletin for the mother and child in order to check on their welfare.
