April 16, 2015

Jaime Herrera Beutler was appointed to serve as the Vice Chair of the Financial Services and Government Oversight Appropriations Subcommittee for the 114th Congress.

As the second most powerful member of this subcommittee that sets spending levels for the IRS, Federal Trade Commission, Federal Communications Commission, FDIC and other federal agencies, Herrera Beutler will serve as chair of the subcommittee in the absence of the chairperson, and assist him in official committee duties. Herrera Beutler assumes this leadership position after only one term on the Appropriations Committee which she began in January of 2013.

The Financial Services and Government Oversight Appropriations Subcommittee has jurisdiction over the Department of Treasury, including the IRS; the Executive Office of the President; Federal Election Commission; National Credit Union Administration; Small Business Administration; U.S. Postal Service, and more.

“It will be my honor to serve as Vice Chair of the Financial Services Subcommittee and increase Southwest Washington’s influence on agencies that serve them,” said Herrera Beutler. “Whether it’s holding the IRS accountable, or ensuring small businesses and community lending institutions are being helped and not hindered by their government, I’ll use this position to help set spending priorities that benefit our region.”
