The Wahkiakum County Eagle - Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891

Former Puget Island Pastor E. Silas Torvend died April 17, 2015, in Silverton, Ore. He was born December 12, 1921, to Silas and Emma Torvend in Tacoma. He is survived by his wife, Alice, sisters Eunice and Olga, son Samuel (Sean Homer), daughter Rebecca (Frank Rainsberger), a grandson and many nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in 1947 and earned a M.Div from Luther Seminary in 1950. He served parishes in Puget Island (Our Saviour's), Burlington, Cupertino, Calif., Lakewood, Burien and Tacoma. He served as a regent of California Lutheran Unversity. Services were held April 25 at St. Mark's Lutheran by the Narrows, Tacoma; burial was at Dunn Cemetery in Mossyrock.
