Westend news:

This note was sent to me by one of the local letter carriers who picked up the donated items. Lori Hamp asked me to include this thank you note in my column. “The 23rd annual Letter Carrier’s ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ Food Drive that took place on May 9th was a huge success! A total of 765 pounds of non perishable food items and supplies were collected by the Rosburg/Grays River and Naselle mail carriers! All of the much needed items collected benefit our local food pantries, the West End Food Pantry located at Johnson Park, and the Naselle Assembly of God Church food pantry. Thanks to all who donated for their support and generosity! It is so greatly appreciated. If anyone missed the food drive and would still like to donate items, please contact Suzie at 465-2312 or Shonda at 465-2722.”

Our little community food pantries are doing such a wonderful service to this area and it is heartwarming to see the outpouring of generosity to others who are in need. I for one, am proud to call this home.

There will not be a Free Friday Night Movie this week at the Grays River Valley Center, as we will be preparing for the Annual Plant Sale, Bake Sale and Soup luncheon, which will commence on Saturday.

Get ready for a full weekend of events, and if you plan it right, you can hit all of them. On Saturday, the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park will host their annual Plant Sale, Bake Sale and Soup Luncheon from noon to 3 p.m. If you would like to donate plants or baked goods, please call Penny Gregory at 465-2775 or me at 465-2960. We will also pick up donated items. If you would prefer to drop them off, we will be there setting up in the cafeteria at 5 p.m. on Friday evening.

This year we will be offering lots of plants and shrubs for your garden, outdoor and indoor plants, veggie and fruit plants as well. Lots of baked goodies also at the bake sale. Choose from three different kinds of soup, prepared by our resident chef, Steve Ramsay and his wife Linda. Donations will be accepted for the luncheon. Enjoy .

Proceeds from this fundraiser will be used for operating expenses at the GRVC.

Don’t forget the 31st Great White Tail Run will take place Saturday morning, with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the race starting at 10 a.m. The course will include a 10K, 5K and 2 mile race through the Julia Butler Hansen National Refuge in Skamokawa.
