Junk ordinance, benefit dinner ahead

Down River Dispatches

News from Naselle:

Congratulations to the Naselle Comette (Girl’s) Track and Field Team on their hard-won District IV 1B 2015 Championship and wish them luck on their trip to compete for the state championship this weekend. Way to go girls and wishing you a safe and successful trip. Go Comettes!

There will be a fast pitch game on Saturday, the 30th in Montesano vs. Oakville at 1:00 p.m. Go Comets!

Baccalaureate Service will be held on Sunday, the 31st at 7:00 p.m. in the Naselle Commons, for the Class of 2015.

Westend news:

Just in case you didn’t read the public notice in the Eagle last week, there will be a special meeting of the Wahkiakum County Commissioners at Johnson Park on Tuesday, at 6:30 p.m., regarding the Solid Waste Nuisance Ordinance. This will be a public town hall meeting to discuss the draft ordinance which can be viewed online at http://www.co.wahkiakum.wa.us or you can request a hard copy by calling 360-795-8048.

We had a good turnout for the original meeting here on the Westend, with lots of input from local folks regarding this “junk ordinance,” so let’s see how well the information gathering process has been extended to the draft. Remember, if you have a complaint or a suggestion on this subject, this is the time to voice it, before the final ordinance is adopted.

David Magnuson, better known to many as “Big Chief" of Naselle, lost his house, shop and all of his possessions in a devastating fire on April 11. He and his dog Tyson, escaped unharmed, at least physically.

Due to extenuating circumstance, he could use the generosity of our community in order to get back on his feet, and begin to rebuild his life from this point. Believe me, when your home burns down, it can be really rough and you wonder “where do we go from here?” David was not quite as lucky as my husband and I were, as we were able to save a few things.

Please join his friends and family on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Rosburg Hall for a benefit dinner and silent auction. The dinner will include such goodies as pulled pork sandwiches, barbecued chicken sandwich, coleslaw, potato salad, baked beans, dessert and beverages. Donations are being accepted for the meal so come join in an evening of fun, and of helping out a man who has been a hard working member of the community for many years.

Items can be donated to the silent auction.

Since this is the fifth Friday of the month, our Free Friday Night Movie will also include an early starting time and we will have pizza as well in the concessions. We will start at 6 p.m.

The movie this week is one of my all time favorites, a classic science fiction epic first shown in 1968 and is rated G. Come join us for a fun evening, bring the whole family.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets in the Rosburg Hall each week for social time and a delicious meal prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew.

On Thursdays, CAP sponsors a senior lunch as well at the Rosburg Hall and lunch for both days is served at noon.
