Pig roast and camp out this Saturday

Down River Dispatches

Even though we can use a little moisture on the ground, the rain predicted for last weekend was not much relief, except it did seem to cool the temperatures down a bit.

The area wide burn ban is still in effect so please be aware of the rules and don’t burn.

This is the big weekend in Rosburg for the annual Pig Roast/Potluck and Campout in Echo Meadows located at 4491 SR 4 West (the home of our host and hostess, Poul and Zenaida Toftemark).

Everyone is welcome. Please bring a dish or two to share as there is usually a large crowd, your own chairs to lounge in, your own beverages and a fun attitude. There will be lots of fun things for the kids and to me watching them is the most enjoyable part. The food is always plentiful and delicious and the grounds and atmosphere very festive. The pig will be roasted and ready on Saturday afternoon, August 1.

Another special event will take place in the Valley Bible church on Saturday, August 1 from 1-3 p.m. Come and help to celebrate Merle Hall’s 90th birthday. In this day and age, that is quite an accomplishment. Wishing Merle a wonderful day and many more.

Celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4. Get together with friends and neighbors, make sure everyone in your area is aware of who should be in your vicinity at any given time. Learn how to keep an eye on each other and help each other if the need arises. We have pretty close knit neighborhoods in our community, but in the recent months, there have been a few incidents that have been stopped because we care about our neighbors. Let’s keep everyone safe.

The Grays River Grange Weekly Market will once again be held every Tuesday from 2-6 p.m. in the Grays River Grange #124 building on SR 4 in Grays River. Shop local for the best buys, and the best home grown produce for reasonable prices.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets every week in the Rosburg Hall for a delicious meal and good company. The lunch is prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteer crew.

On Thursdays a senior lunch is also served at the same location and is sponsored by CAP. Both venues serve at noon.

Happy Birthday to Corina Lee, Brendan Wallace, Bryon Adair, Loretta Smalley, Alex Badger, Alissa Dorman, Jennifer Boggs, Katie Olson, Diana Shetler, Karen Jansma, Eric Smalley, Inez Wirkkala, Annie Strange, Jeff Ammer, Joni Matthews, Makayla Matthews, Scott Smith, Austin Smith, Wendy Crozier, Merle Hall, Kylee Tarabochia, Anita Adair, Michael Colombo, Julie Shaw, Russell Wirkkala and Paige Torppa.

Happy Anniversary wishes go out to Quinn and Amber Donjon, Otis and Renee Hunsinger, Marshall and Denise Blanchard, Alan and Diane Bennett, Tim and Angie Calvert and Harvey and Jeannine Johnson.

A very special Happy Anniversary to the host and hostess of this weekend’s fun event at Echo Meadows in Rosburg, Poul and Zenaida Toftemark. I personally wish many, many more years of happiness together, good health, peace in your heart and that of your family, God’s blessing on you and yours forever, and my thanks for being such good friends to us and our community.

We are looking forward to a visit from our niece, Sandy Clark from Missouri this week. We have not seen her for nearly 20 years, so there will be lots of catching up to do.

As an added bonus, we will also have a visit this weekend from Raven Webb and her friend, Bret, from Idaho. They will join us at the Pig Roast on Saturday. See you at the Pig Roast.
