August 27, 2015



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

August 18 — 2:26 p.m. A caller reported that speeding drivers on the SR 4 detour had nearly run other vehicles off the road. 4:25 p.m. A domestic disturbance was reported at a Grays River home. Weapons were said to be involved. One person was taken into custody. 6:21 p.m. A prank caller was repeatedly calling a Cathlamet office.

August 19 — 7:43 a.m. An erratic driver was reported to be heading westbound on SR 4 near County Line Park. During a vehicle stop, the driver said that it was due to his small dog jumping around in the car. He was given a warning and given a ticket because his insurance was not up to date. 12:58 p.m. A Cathlamet resident received a fake check in the mail. 2:49 p.m. A caller reported that someone had attempted to break into his boat at the marina in Cathlamet. 3:32 p.m. A caller reported that a motorhome had struck the “Road Closed” sign on the west side of the SR 4 detour. 6:28 p.m. The Puget Island Fire Department responded when a caller reported seeing smoke on Puget Island. It was a false alarm. 10:36 p.m. A caller, suspicious of drug activity, reported several vehicles headed to an Elochoman Valley address. 11:46 p.m. A caller reported a drunk driver on the SR 4 detour.

August 20 — 7:03 a.m. A caller reported that a vehicle that had lost a tire was heading east on SR 4 at a high rate of speed.10:26 a.m. A Rosedale business reported that a man with a machete was making employees nervous. Investigation revealed that the man had been hired to cut back blackberries. 2:01 p.m. A caller in Skamokawa reported that someone had tampered with his tires. The man said he’d reported similar damage earlier this year. 3:55 p.m. A caller reported that the barricade on the west end of the SR 4 detour had been knocked down.

August 21 — 7:28 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported finding a cow on her property. The owner was notified. 7:32 a.m. A caller reported that the barricade on the west end of the SR 4 detour had been knocked down. 11:02 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Cathlamet resident. 11:43 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported that he had been assaulted.1:53 p.m. A caller reported that a boat appeared to be adrift in the Columbia River near Puget Island. Investigation revealed that the boat was anchored. 2:01 p.m. A caller complained that the road to the Deep River boat launch was blocked with vehicles and trailers. 2:35 p.m. A Puget Island resident caught two dogs that had allegedly been trying to kill his livestock. 2:43 p.m. A caller reported that a car was parked in the middle of a Cathlamet street. 3:31 p.m. A caller reported a speeding vehicle headed west on SR 4 near Nassa Point. 3:51 p.m. A caller reported a man laying in the middle of a Rosedale road. 4:53 p.m. A caller said that he had nearly been driven off the road by another driver while traveling on the SR 4 detour. 7:04 p.m. A caller requested that a deputy patrol the Deep River boat launch periodically to keep individuals from blocking the road. 8:32 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to a Rosburg address. 11:06 p.m. A caller reported possible squatters in the Elochoman Valley.

August 22 — 11:22 a.m. A caller reported a driver passing in an unsafe area on SR 4. 12:06 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided an elderly Rosburg resident who was unable to get out of bed due to weakness. 12:41 p.m. A Cathlamet resident found several IDs on his property. 12:46 p.m. A Cathlamet resident wanted his shoes returned to him. He was advised that it was a civil matter. 1:13 p.m. A caller requested extra patrols at the Deep River boat launch through the weekend to keep people from blocking the road. 1:29 p.m. A caller reported an accident in a Skamokawa parking lot. 3:53 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a woman on Puget Island who had badly injured her hand. 3:57 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a call in Cathlamet. 5:57 p.m. A caller reported an accident in the parking lot of a Rosedale business. 6:27 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a man with a jaw injury in Cathlamet. 6:28 p.m. A caller reported an accident in the parking lot of a Rosedale business. 6:48 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Rosburg resident. 7:33 p.m. A motorist in Cathlamet needed a jump start. 7:58 p.m. A caller reported a “strange incident” with an intoxicated individual carrying a putty knife in Cathlamet. No more details were available. 9:08 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported a trespasser.

August 23 — 1:19 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an individual with a shoulder injury. The individual refused treatment. 1:32 p.m. The Grays River Fire Department, the Grays River ambulance and a deputy responded to the report of a brush fire in Deep River. 2:09 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a woman who had been injured in Cathlamet. The woman refused treatment. 2:27 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided an unconscious Grays River man. 2:49 p.m. An alarm was activated at a Rosedale address. 3:19 p.m. A caller reported speeding vehicles in Deep River. 4:16 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a man with a skateboarding injury in Cathlamet. 5:06 p.m. Deputies and the Cathlamet Fire Department responded to a brush fire in Deep River. 7:23 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported a campfire at a neighbor’s home on the beach. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded. The fire was put out by the homeowner. 7:24 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a neighbor had a campfire on the beach. 9:28 p.m. A caller reported a domestic disturbance in Grays River. Two deputies responded and the people involved were separated for the night.

August 24 — 2:47 p.m. A caller reported that a vehicle was partially blocking SR 4 on the east side of KM. 7:29 p.m. A Deep River resident complained that a neighbor’s dog had attacked her dog multiple times. Both dogs are wolf hybrids and it was difficult to ascertain whether the dogs were playing or if it was an attack. The dog owner was advised about the dog nuisance ordinance and the potentially dangerous dog ordinance, which she said she would discuss with her neighbor. 9:23 p.m. A Deep River resident reported that a suspicious vehicle had been driving through brush on his neighbor’s property.
