Tutoring and mentoring children, helping youths and adults live healthier lifestyles, connecting veterans and their families to community resources, helping the unemployed get jobs: these are the kinds of meaningful work available to those who join the Washington Service Corps to help make Washington a better place to live and work.

Those 18 years and older interested in helping to meet pressing educational, health and economic needs in communities around the state still can apply for several open AmeriCorps positions with the Washington Service Corps.

Applicants do not have to live in Washington to apply for the chance to join more than 500 community minded adults for the Washington Service Corps’ 2015-16 program year.

Positions are open in Spokane, Tacoma, Tukwila, Federal Way, Everett, Bellevue, Edgewood, Randle, Wenatchee, Yakima, Whidbey Island, Seattle and Redmond. Positions start on Oct. 1.

Washington Service Corps AmeriCorps members commit to 10-and-a-half-month terms of community service. In return, they receive a modest living allowance, health insurance, training and an educational scholarship. Eligible members with children also can receive help with childcare.
