Practice for winter sports has begun, and at Wahkiakum High School, 16 girls have turned out for basketball, according to Coach Rob Garrett. Sydney Hansen, left, posts up against a teammate as Grace peacock watches. The Lady Mules start play on Monday at the R.A. Long Jamboree. Their first home game is December 4 against Adna.

High school athletes have started practice for the coming basketball season; Wahkiakum Mule Hank Ferguson, with ball, works a drill with Casey Wilson as Cody Terpsma watches. Coach Todd Souvenir says that 15 boys have turned out this season with one out for the next month with a fractured foot. The Mules open their season at home on December 1 against Naselle.
