Floods, slides leave impact on Westend

Down River Dispatches

December 17, 2015

It looks like this last storm has inconvenienced quite a few in our neck of the woods. I see that Covered Bridge Road has a pretty serious slide, with one lane collapsed and the other lane questionable near the Barr Road intersection and is closed. Also Shannon Road is closed due to a section of the road collapsing. Lots of other areas were seriously affected by the flooding and mud debris. We have about three inches of silt on our driveway after the 3 1/2 feet of water receded. Let’s hope this is about it, and we can have a calmer winter from here. We can wish, can’t we?

Collection boxes for non-perishable food donations have been placed at both the Rosburg and Naselle post offices for the local food pantries. Please remember that the local food pantries are really in need of food and especially monetary donations this time of year. Canned or dry packaged food can be brought to the drop off locations as well as the food pantries themselves. Other items that are appreciated are personal care items, toiletries and laundry soaps. To make a monetary donation to the West End Food Pantry contact Suzie Whalen at 465-2312 or Shonda Ware at 465-2722. Let’s help others during this season of giving.
