Mill worker expresses ferry frustrations

January 7, 2016

To The Eagle:

Ferry, Wikipedia: "boat used to (ferry) primarily people across a body of water."

I thought when you're right, it was supposed to feel good. When I heard we were getting a new ferry, I said, "Why?" We just need to use the Wahkiakum more effectively. Two runs an hour when needed. I've done more driving to work at the Wauna mill the last few months than the last 30 years combined.

Certainly there must be a lemon law for boats. What we have here is a boat tied to a dock. There are ships and tugs going up and down the river all day and we can't even make it across. In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue, but our leaders can't even get to Oregon! I can see it, hear it, even smell it some days, just can't touch it. Drag that hunk of crap down to the Maritime Museum and let the politicians fawn over it, They seem to be so proud of it.

It's nice that the repairs are so timely. Such a beautiful time of the year to be traveling. Dark both ways, high winds, and we set a December rain fall record. How come when the government gets involved, we get screwed? Aw crap, it's starting to snow. Oh well, I have lot of time to gloat while I'm driving around. Dang it!
