Oscar B. shutting down Wednesday, Feb. 24

Required tracking device to be installed

February 18, 2016

The Wahkiakum County commissioners' office reported Monday that the US Coast Guard has required that an AIS GPS Transmitter be installed on the ferry so that other marine vessels can track the location of the ferry at all times through a satellite signal.

This is a new federal regulation for a vessel the size of the ferry Oscar B.

The ferry Oscar B will be shut down for the installation of the transmitter on February 24, 2016, from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
