Heritage center open on Saturday for tours

The Julia Butler Hansen Heritage Center, 35 Butler St., Cathlamet, will be open for tours on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Julia Butler Hansen House is the oldest house in Cathlamet and Wahkiakum County dating from the 1860’s.

It was the home of the late congresswoman, Julia Butler Hansen and her family for over 100 years.

The house contains numerous water colors done by Mrs. Hansen’s mother, Maude Kimball Butler, who was a noted artist. Among her paintings are water colors of Cathlamet depicting the town in the 1890’s and early 1900’s.

The Hansen Heritage Center is owned by the Wahkiakum Community Foundation. The historic garden will also be available for visitors to see.
