Wahkiakum athletes head to state meet

Rory Heywood leads her leg in the 4x200m relay. The Mules finished second and advance to the stat meet this weekend in Cheney.

The Wahkiakum Mules track and field team traveled to Raymond last Thursday to compete in the 2B District 4 Championship meet.

All competitors who took sixth place or better qualified for the 2B State Track and Field Meet in Cheney this weekend, May 26, 27, and 28.

State qualifiers in individual events for the Mule team were:

--Senior Grace Peacock, who placed sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 13.45.

Macie Elliott finished sixth in the 1600m and qualified for the state meet.

--Freshman Ellie Leitz, who took third place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:30.89.

--Freshman Macie Elliott, who took sixth place in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:58.48.

--Freshman Charlie Ashe, who took sixth place in the high jump, clearing 4-06.

--Freshman Mckensi Fluckiger, who took sixth place in the long jump with a distance of 14-06.5.

Two relay teams qualified for the state track meet.

The 4 x 100 relay team of Cheyenne Barton, M. Elliott, Tyra Elliott, and Peacock finished in fourth place with a time of 53.54.

The 4 x 200 relay team of Barton, T. Elliott, Rory Heywood, and Peacock took second place with a time of 1:52.44.

The relay team will be joined by alternates Grayci Thomas, Trinity Klecker, and Destiny McGowan.
