Evening of excellence, blood drive ahead

Down River Dispatches

News from Naselle:

The Naselle-Grays River Valley Comet track team is off to Cheney for the State Track Meet this weekend. Go Comets!

Students will be able to enjoy a 3 day weekend with no school on Monday, the 30th in celebration of Memorial Day.

Next Thursday evening is the Evening of Excellence where all our incredible students receive their awards for their extra special efforts for the year. This event is one of the most impressive evenings of the year, and as a community, we have much to be proud and thankful for where our school, staff and students are concerned. This team effort every year including the families of all those involved, makes for a great team and our kids are the beneficiaries of a good education,

It’s that time again. Pump up those veins and mark your calendar June 15 from 12:30-6:00 p.m. at Valley Bible Church. It’s save a life, community support, eat a delicious slider day as you give the life-giving gift of your blood to someone who needs it. Contact Susan Burkhalter, if she hasn’t already scheduled you, make an appointment or just stop by. The goal is 55 spots this time, and we have done it before.

A huge “Thank you” to our friends and neighbors in Rosburg, Grays River and Naselle for your donations during the “Stamp Out Hunger” postal food drive that took place on Saturday the 14th. 700 pounds of food was collected between the two post offices and these donations were split between two local food pantries. Our West End Food Pantry located at Johnson Park in Rosburg, relies solely on donations, and this was a huge help to them. Your generous contributions are so appreciated. Thanks for your support.

As most everyone knows, there are many folks who may be down on their luck and rely on places like this to get them through. These food pantries are a godsend to many right here in our own back yards, so if you have extras and would like to donate, there is a container in the Grays River Valley Center to drop off items. Cash can also be donated to be used to purchase items not already on the shelves by calling Susie Whalen or Shonda Ware. The West end Food Pantry is open on Thursdays from noon to 5 p.m.

Happy Birthday to Bryan Penttila, Kaisa Saari, Oscar Penttila, and Jacob Eaton.

Happy Anniversary to Billy and Lois Bighill.

This weekend is a long one in celebration of Memorial Day, remembering those who have gone before us. Each of us will celebrate in our own way, but I would like to invite everyone to remember those brave souls who fought for the freedoms that everyone of us enjoys today. Pray for those who are still in the line of fire against those who would do us harm. God Bless America.
