The fire suppression system was replaced and expanded in the Pioneer Center, formerly known as the Pioneer Church. A large anonymous donation of $18,000, along with grants and donations from many members of the community made it possible for the Pioneer Community Association to get the project completed and go back to what they love, planning concerts and other events at the Pioneer Center.

A recent anonymous donation of $18,000 made it possible for the Pioneer Center, formerly known as the Pioneer Church, to open its doors for the first time in two years.

The Pioneer Community Association has been fundraising since early 2014, when the fire marshal closed the doors of the center because the fire suppression system did not meet code.

In the past month, local contractor David Hicks and electrician Trevor Whitney have been working alongside JW Merit and Signaling System Solutions of Vancouver to install a fire suppression system and an alarm and monitoring system.

The PCA also received a $5,000 donation from Joyce and Bill Ower and a $5,000 grant from the Kinsman Foundation. They received many generous donations from local people who supported the Pioneer Center.

"We had an amazing response from our local community," Jennifer Johnson, the PCA treasurer said. "The majority of the funds came from generous individuals who live here in our area. We all made it happen."

The Skamokawa Swamp Opera is already scheduled to play at the Pioneer Center on July 15 at 7 p.m., providing a permit comes through.
