PUD and Town to hold public meeting on consolidation of water systems

August 11, 2016

The Wahkiakum Public Utility District #1 (PUD) and the Town of Cathlamet invite the interested members of the public to attend a public meeting to hear a presentation on the feasibility of consolidating the PUD’s and the Town’s separate water systems. The meeting will be held at the PUD Meeting Room from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m., on Tuesday, August 16, at 45 River Street in Cathlamet.

The meeting is a requirement of the grant from the Washington Department of Health that funded a feasibility study by the PUD’s and the Town’s consulting water engineer, Gray and Osborne, Inc. The grant is part of a Washington State strategy to address long-term concerns about meeting public needs for safe drinking water.

This meeting will present the engineers’ analysis of issues and data and a description of processes that could be used to consolidate the two water systems. Questions and comments from the public will be taken after the presentation. This is an information-sharing workshop. No official decisions by the PUD commissioners or the Town council will be made at this meeting. Should the PUD and Town subsequently decide to pursue consolidation in the future, the public will be given ample opportunity to study specific proposals and make comments at one or more public hearings.
