August 18, 2016



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

August 8 — 7:58 a.m. A Grays River resident complained that his neighbor’s cows were loose and that it happened frequently. The owner was contacted and advised about fencing requirements. 1:34 p.m. A Puget Island resident was concerned about a suspicious device that she found attached to her house. She thought it was a monitoring device but it turned out to be a weather station sensor. 3:56 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that someone had damaged his vehicle.

August 9 — 8:34 a.m. A Grays River resident reported that there were cows on the road. 12:11 p.m. A postal employee reported that someone had thrown an orange at her from a passing vehicle while she was delivering mail in Rosburg. 12:26 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that he had been defrauded by a contractor. He was advised that it was a civil issue. 12:31 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that his ex-girlfriend had stolen his wallet. 1:36 p.m. A caller reported that someone had left a wallet at a Cathlamet business. 3:04 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident with hyperglycemia. 3:06 p.m. A caller reported that a pig was loose again on the golf course in Rosedale. The owner was notified, advised about fencing, and informed that there would be no further warnings. 4:58 p.m. A Deep River resident reported that she was being harassed online. She was advised. 5:57 p.m. A caller reported a driver speeding on Middle Valley Road in the Skamokawa area. 8:29 p.m. A caller reported that a vehicle had broken down on SR 4 on the east side of KM and was blocking a lane of traffic. A tow truck was called.

August 10 — 5:59 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who was found on the floor. The individual was not responding. 9:25 a.m. A caller reported that cows were loose in Grays River. The caller also reported that the owner did not have adequate fencing and there was no water in one pasture. 9:50 a.m. A Cathlamet resident requested a deputy after she asked a man to leave her property and he refused. 2:18 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had fallen. 7:12 p.m. A caller reported that a no contact order had been violated in the Elochoman Valley. 7:21 p.m. A caller reported that people were leaving garbage and restaurant oil at the recycle bins at the high school in Cathlamet. 9:04 p.m. A father reported that his son had left Longview for work in Cathlamet earlier that day and had never shown up. The son had been ill. 9:59 p.m. A Cathlamet resident was concerned that someone was coming into her house and moving things. Deputies did a walk through and found the home to be secure.

August 11 — 10:30 a.m. A horse was killed on East Valley Road in Skamokawa. The owner asked a deputy to check it out because he did not recognize what had caused the horse’s injuries. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife was contacted. 11:30 a.m. A caller reported that people were vandalizing the Grays River Covered Bridge.

August 12 — 6:31 a.m. A caller reported that someone had taken something off the porch of the clothing bank in Rosedale and brought it to a home in the Elochoman Valley. 11:37 a.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that a no contact order had been violated. 3:34 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that her neighbor’s kids were throwing dog feces into her yard. 4:06 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that several items had been stolen from his shop. 5:39 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported that an unknown and “incoherent” man was trying to sleep in his yard. 6:55 p.m. A caller reported that there were cattle on SR 4 in the Alger Creek area. 7:24 p.m. A Cathlamet resident requested that deputies do more patrols in her area. 8:43 p.m. A freighter ran aground near Skamokawa. The Coast Guard was notified. 9:19 p.m. A caller reported a possible drunk driver headed west on SR 4. 9:41 p.m. A caller reported that his son was missing. The man had not shown up for several days and his girlfriend had not seen him. His phone appeared to be turned off.

August 13 — 3:58 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident with respiratory issues. 11:26 a.m. A caller reported that a driver was speeding regularly on Ingalls Road in the Skamokawa area. 1:14 p.m. A caller reported that a man in Cathlamet had talked about committing suicide. A representative from the mental health department was notified. 3:46 p.m. Deputies and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to a motorcycle accident on the east end of KM. 5:13 p.m. An officer from Cowlitz County asked deputies to arrest a local resident for malicious mischief. The deputies were unable to locate the subject at that time. 6:26 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Elochoman Valley resident. 10:46 a.m. A caller reported that there was a strong smell of gas just west of County Line Park. A deputy discovered the smell coming from a deceased deer in a culvert.

August 14 — 11:27 a.m. A Rosburg resident reported that someone had stolen four loads of firewood during the night. 1:04 p.m. Deputies, the Cathlamet ambulance and a mental health professional responded when a Cathlamet resident called to say that she was considering suicide. 3:43 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident requested a deputy for a civil standby. 4:13 p.m. Deputies, the Skamokawa ambulance, the Skamokawa Fire Department and the Cathlamet Fire Department responded to a one vehicle accident on SR 4 west of Skamokawa. 6:50 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Puget Island resident. 8:46 p.m. Deputies and the Grays River ambulance responded to a one vehicle accident in the Deep River area. 9:45 p.m. A caller reported that his truck which was towing landscaping equipment had blown a tire. It was alongside SR 4 in the Alger Creek area and the owner would not be able to move it until the next day. He was worried that something might get stolen from the trailer and asked for extra patrols. 10:20 p.m. A caller reported that an unknown man who was walking towards Cathlamet kept returning to a business in Skamokawa and trying to enter despite the fact that it was closed for the night.

August 15 — 2:23 a.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to an alarm that was activated at a Deep River home. It was a false alarm and the resident was okay.
