Cowlitz County pastors will hold a Blessing of the Animals next Tuesday, 4-7 p.m., at Lake Sacajawea in Longview.

The Blessing of the Animals is a traditional remembrance of Saint Francis of Assisi and his ministry, because he is the patron Saint of animals. Pastors from ELCA denomination Lutheran will be blessing animals at the Lion’s Covered Shelter on the south end of Lake Sacajawea.

People are invited to bring domesticated pets, or a picture of their pets, exotic animals, horses, or livestock for a blessing from one of the pastors.

All pet parents will be responsible for controlling and caring for their own pets.

Organizers are asking participants to consider a donation of cat food, dog food, towels and/or toys for the Cowlitz County Humane Society. Cash donations will be accepted for the Emergency Support Shelter in support of their effort to “allow victims of domestic violence to bring their pets with them for safety and healing.”
