Westend new:

The West End Food Pantry in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park held another very successful lasagna feed last Saturday and I had the pleasure of enjoying it with my sister and one of my kids. The event was nearly a sell out, and proceeds will be used to supplement the needs of the Food Pantry in the upcoming months.

The Food Pantry is also implementing a new program called “Fill a Feedbag” to help with the ever growing holiday needs in many communities including our own. You can pick up a specially created feed bag from the Food Pantry or by calling Suzie Whalen and fill it as a part of your family holiday activities, or organization you may belong to, or even suggest give it to a classroom to work on as a group.

If you can pick up a feedbag and fill it in the coming weeks, then return it to the Food Pantry on or before November 17 (for the Thanksgiving holiday) or before December 15 (for the Christmas baskets), it would be appreciated. The Westend Food Pantry is open 1-5 p.m. Thursdays each week.

If you can’t drop off your feedbag, the food pantry will make arrangements to pick it up and transport it for you, by calling 465-2312. Let’s help make this a happy holiday season for all, by helping out the less fortunate.

Coming up this weekend is one of the most impressive events of the year, as far as I am concerned, and it is benefitting one of the most kid friendly organizations in the world, 4-H.

The 9th Annual Covered Bridge Dinner will be held on Saturday inside our historical Grays River Covered Bridge. Dinner will begin being served at 4:30 p.m. with locally barbecued salmon, locally grown veggies and as always a delicious dessert. Cougar Gold cheese and fresh bread will also be available to the diners, with enjoyable music and other activities. Tickets are still available at the Bank of the Pacific and from the Extension office for $35 and for grand Americans (72 years young) and veterans the price is $25.

This dinner culminates a full weekend covering events all over Wahkiakum County which include history, farm tours, delicious food and fun for the whole family.

Help to celebrate the incredible, beautiful and productive land and people of Wahkiakum County and our close proximity to the Columbia River and it’s bounty. Proceeds support Wahkiakum County Extension and 4-H Programs.

The Grays River Grange Farm market is still going for a few more weeks. They are open for business from 2-6 p.m., Tuesdays. Fresh produce grown close to home for reasonable prices.

This Friday is the final cooking class of the month long program sponsored by the WSU Extension office and is being held in the cafeteria of the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park. The participants have learned many tricks about comparing food brands, bulk buying, freezing and preserving food for later use, nutritional facts, budgeting your food buying and this week will put all those previously learned skills together. Hopefully this program or others like it can be a regular part of our neighborhood Food Pantry and WSU Extension offerings.

This week’s Free Saturday Night Movie is a 2016 Finnish-American 3D computer-animated action-adventure comedy film based on a video game series. It is a family friendly show for everyone to enjoy. The movie starts at 7 p.m. and concessions are available before the movie and during the intermission.

It’s hard to believe it’s already time to start thinking about the annual Holiday Bazaar, sponsored by the Rosburg Community Club. This year’s Holiday Bazaar will be held October 29 in the Rosburg Hall.

This bazaar is always one of the best, where you can begin your holiday shopping, with tables filled with home made wares from our incredible talented vendors, and the delicious baked goods for sale as well as the delicious luncheon which will be served beginning at 11:30 p.m. Hours for the event are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Please contact either Barbara Rose at 465-2234 or Sonja Kruse at 465-2251 for table rentals.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch will be treated to another home cooked meal this week that is prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteers in the Rosburg Hall.

On Thursdays a senior meal is also served in the Rosburg Hall and is sponsored by CAP. Lunch is served on both days at noon.

Happy Birthday to Kaitlyn Steenerson, Shane Smith, Travis Boggs, Randy Saari, Gayle Gacke, Blythe Engelson, Diane Bennett, Steve Haase and Lynette Mullins. Wishing each of you a perfect day.

Happy Anniversary wishes go out to Luke and Crystal Gardner. Here’s to many more celebrations.
