Other news from the Westend:

It’s almost election day and the Grays River Grange will host a candidates forum on Tuesday, October 18 at 7 p.m. in the Grays River Grange Hall in Grays River.

Candidates for the Washington State Legislature and the Wahkiakum County Commission will speak and will also take questions from the audience. For more information, you can email grange@wwest.net.

The Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park will host a Prime Rib Dinner fundraiser on Saturday, the 22nd in the cafeteria from 5-7 p.m.

Tickets must be purchased before Friday, October 14 in order to get a dinner count prior to purchasing the necessary product for the meal. Ticket prices are $15 per adult and $7 for children under 10.

For more information on this event please call Shonda Ware, 465-2722 or the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park, 465-2310.

The Free Saturday Night movie this week is a continuation of super hero action with all the fun and usual games of the avenging heroes; a 2016 release that is rated PG-13. The show starts at 7 p.m. but I am told that you can come a little early for a light movie night supper and as usual popcorn, candy and sodas.

Some new information regarding the movies being shown at the GRVC. The movies are now being provided by the Video Store in Cathlamet. If you miss one of our showings, you can rent it for your own home showing. The store is conveniently located near the Gragg’s Store at 293 E SR 4 and for the convenience of west enders, you can return your rented items to the Skamokawa Store as well. You can also check out their FaceBook page at Video Store Cathlamet.

If you are interested in helping out with holiday meals for families in our neck of the woods, you can pick up a specially created feed bag from the Food Pantry or by calling Suzie Whalen and fill it as a part of your family holiday activities. The program is called “Fill a Feedbag.”

Stick it in your trunk then whenever you are out shopping, pick up a few extra items and put it in the bag, when it’s full, return it to the Food Pantry before November 17 (for the Thanksgiving Holiday) or before December 15 (for the Christmas Baskets), for delivery to families who may be down on their luck. The West End Food Pantry is open on Thursdays, from 1-5 p.m. each week.

The food pantry will make arrangements to pick it up and transport the bag for you, if you need it to be, by calling 465-2312.

The Rosburg Community Club’s annual Holiday Bazaar will be held on Saturday, October 29 in the Rosburg Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. I’m not sure how many years this event has been happening, but I know it was before I moved here nearly 17 years ago.

Start your holiday shopping early, purchase yummy baked goods and enjoy their annual luncheon which is served beginning at 11:30 a.m.

For more information or for table rentals please contact either Barbara Rose at 465-2234 or Sonja Kruse at 465-2251.

The Rosburg Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch meets each week for a delicious lunch that is prepared and served by Pat Potter and her volunteers in the Rosburg Hall.

On Thursdays another senior meal is served in the Rosburg Hall and is sponsored by CAP. Lunch is served at noon on both days.

Happy Birthday to Kaia Hunsinger, Krista Bocker, Doug Rainey, Aila Hazen, Matthew Holt, Trina Scrabeck and Cliff Kilponen.

I made a quick trip to Oregon this past weekend for the 1st birthday of one of my great grandsons. The autumn leaves are beautiful already as I drove over Mt. Hood and it snowed for the first time on some of the mountains surrounding the Bend and Redmond area. It was really nice to see the family there and just as nice to come home to the rain. It’s Fall, and my favorite season of the year.
