EggBot programming kit available for local, tribal libraries

October 6, 2016

Kids and teens in Cathlamet will have another reason to visit the Cathlamet Public Library. The EggBot Robotics programming kit will be on hand from October 6-15.

The library is located at 115 Columbia St.

“The Eggbot is a little tricky to set up, but gives amazing results on blown-out eggs and ping-pong balls. Kids should bring their own emptied eggshells,” said Librarian Carol Blix.

This Science, Technology, Art and Math (STEAM) device is a compact, easy-to-use, open-source art robot that can draw on spherical or egg-shaped objects. The EggBot kit contains materials to serve between eight to 20 children at one time depending on how it is deployed. The kit contains five laptops, one projector, and five EggBots. The one kit will be contained in two cases.

The Washington State Library is making the EggBot kit available to local and tribal libraries that request it.

“We’re excited to make the EggBot kit available to those libraries that sign up for it,” said Carolyn Petersen, the State Library’s youth services liaison. “We know that STEM and STEAM kits are popular with kids, as well as educational, so we look forward to helping make this kit available at the Cathlamet Public Library so children and teens there can enjoy it.”

For more information about the EggBot kits, contact Carol Blix at 795-3254 or Petersen at the State Library at (360) 570-5560 or carolyn.petersen@sos.wa.gov.
