Sydney Hansen winds up for a solid hit against the Pe Ell Trojans. The Mules won the match easily in three sets, 25-7, 25-20, and 25-12.

The Wahkiakum Mules volleyball team split games this week losing in Kalama and beating Pe Ell at home.

Last Thursday, the team lost to the Chinooks in Kalama, 13-25, 16-25, and 20-25.

"Coming into this week against two really tough teams we knew it was going to take a lot of hard work and discipline to be successful," Coach Kayli Hurley said. "We didn't play terribly, and in fact, did some really good things. It just wasn't quite enough."

"RayAnna Carlon had a great game with seven kills," Hurley said. "Savannah Burdick and Makenzie Anderson played some awesome defense in the back court and Peyton Souvenir worked her booty off running the offense and making offensive attempts at the ball. The team as a whole was also 100 percent from the service line tonight, which is awesome."

The Lady Mules hosted Pe Ell on Monday night and won in three sets, 25-7, 25-20, and 25-12.

"Tonight (Monday) was fun," Coach Kayli Hurley said. "We were able to mix our lineup a bit and stretch ourselves out of the comfort zone."

She praised Ellie Leitz for a "solid game and some great touches at the net." Leitz had five kills. Hurley also praised Mckensi Fluckiger for her play on defense.

Senior Makenzie Anderson, who has provided some excitement and power at the net this year, proves she is equally as reliable on defense.

Peyton Souvenir had 14 assists and four kills.

Napavine was in Cathlamet yesterday (Wednesday) for the Lady Mules last game of the regular season. Scores were not available by press time.

The Lady Mules were 7-3 and in fifth place in the 2B Central League as of Tuesday. District play begins on Saturday, and if the team's status remains unchanged, they will play against the fourth place team from Pacific League at 11:30 a.m. in Kalama.

It is a double elimination tournament. The top eight teams in the Central and Pacific leagues will have an opportunity to play two matches on Saturday. Teams that are not eliminated will continue play for a state berth on November 2 in either Napavine or Adna. The final district games are scheduled for November 5 in Adna.
