WHS wrestlers medal; hosting tournaments

Trynity Mendez got the win in this match at the Tiger Classic Tournament in Centralia. Mendez ended the day with second place in her weight class.

The Wahkiakum Mules wrestling team sent four grapplers to Centralia this weekend to compete in the Tiger Classic Tournament.

Jacob Hammond gets a win at the Tiger Classic Tournament in Centralia on Saturday. Hammond took first place in his JV division.

Seniors Trynity Mendez and Rayanna Carlon represented the varsity team, while Erica Mendoza and Jacob Hammond wrestled for the junior varsity.

Mendez took second place in her weight class and Carlon took third place in another. Mendoza and Jacob Hammond finished in first place in their respective weight classes.

On Friday as part of her senior project, Carlon has organized a wrestling tournament just for girls. Several teams have been invited. On Saturday, the annual Downriver Challenge wrestling meet will take place in the high school gym. It is a popular event and if it's like every other year, there will be several teams participating. There will be a lot of people and a lot of energy.
