Tori Wegdahl, a 2015 Wahkiakum High School graduate, was recently named as a first team All-American for her athleticism on the volleyball court. She is one of 18 community college athletes in the United States to be selected for this honor this year by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Wegdahl is in her second year at Walla Walla Community College. She was instrumental in the Warriors' fourth place finish in the Northwest Athletic Conference during her final season with the team.

She was chosen as the East Region Player of the week three times this season and the NWAC Player of the week twice. She was given East Region First Team honors and NWAC Tournament First Team honors. She was also on the All-Academic team.

"Tori had a great season for us," Coach Chelsie Speer said. "She was a big contributor to our season success. We finished the season as co-champs of the East region and fourth place at the NWAC Championship tournament. Her overall ball control is one of the best I've ever had at the libero position. She grew a lot, not only as a player, but as a person in her two seasons at Walla Walla."

"We will miss her," Speer continued, "but I am excited to see what the future has in store for her. We are working on figuring out where she will play next. No matter what, she will be successful. She has an incredible family and a ton of support."

According to Speer, Wegdahl had 772 digs on the season, averaging 6.18 per set. On two occasions, Wegdahl had 48 digs in a match, first against Clark College, and then again at the NWAC tournament, setting a personal and team record. She lead the NWAC in digs per set as well as overall digs. She serve-receive passed a 2.54 on the season, out of a possible 3.0.

Wegdahl had 155 digs at the NWAC tournament, averaging 7.75 per set, and served six aces.

The Warriors finished the season with a 14-2 conference record and a 29-10 overall record.

Tori is the daughter of Mike and Stacey Wegdahl of Cathlamet.
