Leading the cheers for Wahkiakum High School basketball teams are cheerleaders Tarah Wisner, Destiny McGowan, and Allison Kirby.

The Wahkiakum Mules girls basketball team beat a 2A team from Arlington and faced a Class 3A team the next day in a two day tournament over the Christmas break.

In Napavine on Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Mules beat Lakewood, 56-54.

"We didn't play with much energy," Coach Rob Garrett said. " We struggled to shoot from the outside. Happy to get the win, but we need to pick it up if we are going to reach our goals. Charlie Ashe and Peyton Souvenir stepped up and hit a couple of big free throws toward the end to seal the deal."

Souvenir had a double double with 24 points and 15 rebounds. Macie Elliott scored seven points and had six assists. Ashe had seven points as well. Mckensi Fluckiger had six points. Savannah Burdick and Maddy Mace scored five points each and Sydney Hansen added two.

Yesterday (Wednesday), the Lady Mules faced a 3A Meadowdale High School team from Lynnwood at 6 p.m. in Napavine. The score was not available by press time but can be found on the Wahkiakum Eagle Sports Report page on Facebook.
