January 12, 2017



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past two weeks, including:

December 27 — 1:38 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to an Alger Creek home where a resident had fallen after a dizzy spell. CPR was being administered by a deputy. 6:06 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided an ailing Grays River resident. 4:55 p.m. A caller was concerned that a child was being abused in an Elochoman Valley home. 8:22 p.m. The District 4 Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at a home on the east side of the county. The alarm was canceled. 11:33 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had chest pain and was having trouble breathing.

December 28 — 4:34 a.m. Shortly after a deputy reported that the summit of KM was a “sheet of ice,” a semi and a log truck were involved in a head on collision, blocking both lanes of traffic. No one was injured. The road was reopened at 8:35 a.m. 6:41 a.m. A caller reported that a vehicle slid off SR 4 near Nassa Point. No injuries were reported and the vehicle was later towed. 7:23 a.m. A caller reported a rollover accident on SR 4 at the passing lanes on the east end of the county. There were no injuries reported. The vehicle was towed and the road was reopened at 8:35 a.m. 3:25 p.m. A caller reported seeing what he believed to be his stolen ATV at a Skamokawa home. 4:46 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that he had quarreled with a neighbor about an easement.

December 29 — 11:43 a.m. The Grays River ambulance aided an ailing Deep River resident.

December 30 — 10:29 a.m. A caller complained about a vehicle that was parked in front of a driveway and blocking access to his equipment. 4:18 p.m. A caller reported finding a dog at the summit of KM. 5:46 p.m. A wallet was found and a deputy tried to make contact with the owner. 6:03 p.m. A caller reported a possible drunk driver heading west on SR 4 near Nassa Point. 6:46 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver heading west on SR 4 in the Flandersville area. The caller said that the driver had thrown three cans out of the window and two of them had hit her car. At 6:50 p.m., the vehicle was pulled over by a deputy and the driver was taken into custody.

December 31 — 7:35 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to a fire alarm in Cathlamet. 7:48 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident. 9:48 p.m. The sheriff’s office was asked to meet Kelso law enforcement at County Line Park and transport a youth to his grandfather’s home in Rosburg.

January 1 — 12:52 a.m. A caller reported that a young family member was stealing her marijuana. After he refused to help her hand out blankets to the homeless in Kelso, she demanded that law enforcement take him somewhere else. 2:26 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident with chest pain. 11:14 a.m. A landlord on Puget Island notified the sheriff’s office of his plans to evict someone in the home.

January 2 — 9:46 a.m. A caller reported that an animal was being abused in the Glengate area. 10:58 a.m. An individual was taken into custody after assaulting a man who had kicked his dog at the marina in Cathlamet. According to the report, the man kicked the dog after getting bit. 12:02 p.m. A caller reported seeing two men riding an ATV on a walking path in the wetlands area of the Julia Butler Refuge. 1:09 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to the report of a one vehicle accident on a Deep River road. Injuries were unknown. 7:50 p.m. A caller reported that he had been assaulted by two men on Puget Island. He was bleeding. The Cathlamet ambulance responded. 8:16 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to the county jail when an inmate complained of chest pain. 10:59 p.m. A caller reported that the door of a Rosedale church had been left open. A church elder was contacted and en route.

January 3 — 12:03 p.m. A caller reported that several drivers were speeding up and down a Deep River road. 1:58 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that his vehicle had been struck and damaged while he was at the store. 8:43 p.m. A caller reported she had been told that a family member was currently at her house stealing things. She also said this was a violation of a restraining order. A deputy drove to the residence and found everything secure. 10:10 p.m. A stolen vehicle was recovered on KM.

January 4 — 12:33 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an east end resident who was having respiratory issues. The resident refused transport to the hospital. 8:08 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was feeling weak. 9:43 a.m. An individual asked if a deputy might join him while he visited a Beaver Creek home to address a solid waste complaint. 11:22 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had abdominal pain. 1:29 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Rosburg resident who was having heart trouble. 3:29 p.m. The Cathalmet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident who had fallen. 4:32 p.m. A caller reported that a Rosedale resident with dementia was missing. He was later found. 5:11 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported hearing an automatic weapon being fired. 6:07 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident after a fall. 8:42 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had abdominal pain.

January 5 — No calls.

January 6 — 1:38 a.m. A caller reported seeing a man who appeared to be intoxicated walking down a Rosedale road. When approached he said that his truck had broken down and he did not know where it was at. The man was identified and returned to his home. 6:44 a.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded when a fire alarm was activated at a Cathlamet address. It was a false alarm. 9:52 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident with a heart problem. 2:06 p.m. The fire alarm was activated by a child at a school in Cathlamet. 2:29 p.m. A caller reported that an individual had violated a no contact order. 7:14 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a child who had a seizure at a Cathlamet residence.

January 7 — 3:36 a.m. A caller reported a boulder on SR 4 near County Line Park. 10:08 a.m. A caller reported that a family member with dementia had struck a caregiver at a Deep River home. 7:18 p.m. A fight broke out amongst inmates at the county jail.

January 8 — 9:54 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had fallen. 2:45 p.m. An inmate was reported to be out of control at the county jail. 4:50 p.m. A caller reported that a cow was loose and on a Puget Island road. 4:54 p.m. A caller reported a leaking hose. 8:01 p.m. A caller reported that three people claiming to be Jehovah’s Witnesses had just come to his door in Cathlamet. He thought it was suspicious considering the late hour.

January 9 — 3:33 a.m. A vehicle struck a boulder on SR 4 on the west side of KM. 4:05 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident with chest pain.
