Above and below: Evan Quigley dove in after a loose ball in the Mules' 50-60 loss to MWP last Thursday. MWP's Matthew Poquette didn't take it well and got a lightning fast and stern word from a referee before it went any further.

The Wahkiakum Mules lost to Morton White Pass in a heartbreaker last Thursday, 50-60.

"I thought we played great on the defensive end for four quarters and really battled against a much bigger team," Coach Todd Souvenir said. "It was the first game this year that we were able to put four quarters together on the offensive end behind a big night from Hank (Ferguson) to keep us close. We cut the lead to four with a little under four minutes to go but they gave the ball to Poquette and we didn't have an answer for him down the stretch."

Ferguson outscored everyone on the floor, including MWP's 6-6 Matthew Poquette who finished the game with 23 points, eight of which came in the final four minutes. Ferguson scored 24 points. Luke Brown had 11 points. Santos Wright added six points, Evan Quigley scored five points, and James Anderson and Casey Wilson had two points apiece.

MWP 15 18 11 16 --60

Mules 15 11 8 16 --50

"Overall I was really excited after that game," Souvenir said. "I felt like the boys took a big step in their confidence in themselves and their teammates on both ends of the floor."

The Mules faced Onalaska at home on Wednesday, but the score was not available by press time. The score will be posted on the Wahkiakum Eagle Sports Report on Facebook.
