Savannah Burdick fought to get in position for this shot against a very physical Adna team. The Lady Mules won, 63-55.

The Wahkiakum Mules girls basketball team won three more games this week to bring their league record to 12-0, and 16-0 overall. They also watched their ranking on the WIAA RPI rise for a short time.

Last Thursday, the Lady Mules traveled to Adna and faced their toughest competition this season. They beat the Pirates 63-55, proving once and for all that they deserved first place in the Central 2B league.

Coming from behind, the Lady Mules were able to pull ahead by two to end the second quarter. They extended their lead by nine in the first 1:45 of the third quarter and Adna spent the rest of the game trying to catch up. They had plenty of chances. Three Mules fouled out while Adna's Kenya Lorton went to the line 18 times.

Peyton Souvenir led the Lady Mules with 28 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, and one block. Macie Elliott had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Charlie Ashe added 11 points. Savannah Burdick had 10 points. Ellie Leitz scored two.

"I thought we played a great game once we got comfortable," Coach Rob Garrett said. "Peyton (Souvenir) made great decisions throughout. Charlie (Ashe) stepped up huge in her first start playing great defense and scoring at big moments. Savannah (Burdick) and Macie (Elliott) also had some huge shots. We did a good job with our game plan defensively, but we have to do a better job of not fouling. It's a huge win for us."

Souvenir had 21 points, nine steals, six rebounds, and two blocks. Elliott had 14 points, seven steals, and six rebounds. Burdick scored 11 points. Mckensi Fluckiger had nine points. Leitz added five points, Paige Mace had four. Maddy Mace scored three points. Ashe had two points and six steals.

"Not our best shooting night but the girls played good defense and shared the ball really well," Coach Garrett said.

The win moved the Lady Mules up in the WIAA RPI standings. They were in fifth place while Kalama and Adna had moved to eighth and ninth place respectively.

On Tuesday, the Lady Mules beat Winlock at home, 69-30.

Souvenir had a triple double with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists. She also had seven steals and one block. Elliott had 14 points, six rebounds, five steals, and one block. Leitz scored 12 points and had six boards. M. Mace had 10 points, Ashe scored eight, Sydney Hansen had four points and Burdick finished the game with two.

"It was kind of a blah game," Coach Garrett admitted. "Half the girls did pretty good and the other half weren't really there mentally. We will be better the rest of the way."
