It was a pasta extravaganza at the Doernbecher Dinner, Talent Show, and Silent Auction at the high school on Saturday.

Wahkiakum School District students raised $2,652.53 for Doernbecher Children's Hospital this week through a variety of activities.

The biggest hit and moneymaker was dodgeball on Wednesday night. 12 teams of five to eight players raised $931.25. There were two divisions in the event, one for elementary students and another for middle to high school students. The money was primarily raised by sponsors, friends and family watching the event, who would pay to get players out of jail and back out on the floor.

Students bought $216.92 in root beer floats. The talent show and silent auction raised $670.

Freshman Solana Stanley was a last minute addition to the Doernbecher Talent Show on Saturday evening. She and Autumn Jensen, who also sang, were named the winners.

The Key Club organizes the event each year and Sydney Hansen, who is the club president this year, encouraged middle school students to consider joining the club, at the final assembly on Tuesday.

"I think our Key Club members worked really hard to make this week as successful as it could be," Hansen said after the assembly. "I think the time that they put in reflects how awesome our school is and people that want to serve for this great cause."

According to club advisor Shelby Garrett, while there are about 30 members of Key Club at the school, there is a core group of 20 that show up and volunteer.

"I think it was a great way to give back to the community," Hansen said of her experience with Key Club. "It's cool to have that opportunity to serve. I love leadership in general, and Key Club has been that opportunity."

Hansen is a senior this year. She's currently considering two colleges and wants to go into education. She hopes to eventually work in education administration.
