The Mules golf team opened the season with a 181-211 win over Willapa Harbor's combined team of Willapa Valley, Raymond and South Bend High Schools played at Skyline Golf Course in Cathlamet last week.

After spending the summer attending the Skyline Golf Camp and winning the third flight at the Mint Valley Junior City Championship, freshman Tyler St. Onge opened the season with a medalist score of 41.

Sophomore Zach Johnston tied team captain Bryce Good, a junior, for second place with a 43 in the 14 player event.

Three freshmen, Isaac Moon, 53, Elijah Doiron, 54, Joseph Savelio, 69, with eighth grader Kaleo Silva, 60 also played for the Mules. Freshman Heidi Bruntmyer also made her first appearance.

A four ball score of 181 is an encouraging start when you factor in we finished the 2016 season with a team score of 200. That's a 19 stroke improvement. Wow! The next match is today (Thursday) at home against Life Christian of Tacoma and Adna High School.
