Wahkiakum County 4-H is sponsoring “Super Saturday” to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 22 at the Wahkiakum County Fairgrounds from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come and learn.

It starts with quality assurance for 4-H and FFA market sale participants from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Sessions start at 9:30 a.m., and run 50 minutes.

There will be a free lunch at noon and organizers ask that people RSVP so they will have enough food at 360-795-3278 or e mail walterske@gmail.com.

Free trees will be available from Hancock Forest Management while they last. Classes include Gary Fredricks at 9:30 a.m., with “what’s for dinner” feeding animals and at 10:30 a.m., Hay and pasture—bring hay samples. Shawn Deal will be teaching drama at 9:30 a.m., and photography at 10:30 a.m. The robotics club will do demos and teaching of remote control and programmed robotics. Search and Rescue will be there all day with demos on survival skills, reading a compass, GPS, etc. Ham radio operators will be there all day with demos from talking on ham radio to digital radios. They will have a tower set up.

There will be classes on biscuits, quick breads and spinning in the youth building kitchen. Exotic barn will have two sessions on snakes in the morning and cats at 1 p.m. Poultry barn has recycled treasures in the a.m. sessions and all about poultry at 1 p.m., and rabbits. Gary Howell and his canine partner will be there at 1 p.m. in the T-building. At 1 p.m. the cow barn will have hands on instruction for making stepping stones at 9:30 a.m., and 1 p.m.

Wahkiakum County Extension agent Carrie Backman will give an overview of entering posters and record books at the fair. Jim Moten will explain about the 4-H FFA market sale; that it’s not only animals but still life can also be sold.
